They say necessity is the mother of invention but negativity is its father. As CNBC’s Donny Deutsch said on the TODAY Show (seen here) invention sometimes comes about by seeing something wrong with an existing product or maybe it’s lacking in one area and improving on it. Improvement is inherently negative. Improvements don’t usually happen if something works great. You find the flaw and make it better. The end result is positive, but the impetus (someone bought a new thesaurus!) is due to negative thinking.
It works the same at the office.
Positive thinking says “I love working here at Company X. It’s the best place I’ve ever worked. Don’t change a thing!”
Negative thinking says “I love working here at Company X. It’s the best place I’ve ever worked. It would be even better if we…” Finding the weak spots and making them stronger. That’s how work improves, how life improves, how everything improves!
Be positive. Think Negative.
