Unless this really is the end of days and the H1N1 flu is here to wipe us out, this will be the last I speak of it. Unless I myself catch it. I was trapped in an elevator with a coughing Mexican lady yesterday. No lie.
The thing about the media is they will cannibalize their own if it will get people to pay attention. Since the flu “pandemic” isn’t panning out like the news wanted, they are more than content on criticizing their own. Like CNN, who had the stones to post this headline: Hysteria over swine flu is the real danger, some say.
Really? Some say? Which some? Because it hasn’t been CNN! Let’s look at some of the headlines posted over the weekend, shall we:
U.N wary of second wave of flu – Wary in that they think it will be worse.
Scientists scramble for vaccine as flu cases rise – Sounds like everything is under control…doesn’t it? It is, right? I think I wet myself!
Swine flu fears stalk the living and the dead – Holy Crap!!! Zombie Pigs! Run for your life! I knew I shouldn’t have eaten pork. My Jewish friends really are the chosen people!!
Proms, dates take hits from swine flu – Too bad swine flu is taking away from the rise in STDs. But it sure didn’t steal the spotlight. More attention should be placed on this issue, but apparently 19 million new cases in the US every year with half of those affected being 15-24 is not as important as the 985 people sick (worldwide) and the 26 (worldwide) who died.
Flu has sole U.S. surgical mask producer scrambling – Yeah… to the bank. They are making a mint during this crisis. Not their fault and I don’t blame the mask companies, but the headline makes it sound like we’re all going to die thanks to lack of masks. Which don’t really protect you from the flu; they only help keep infected people from spreading the flu.
Avoid ‘confined spaces’ such as planes, Biden says – Well…it’s Joe Biden. He’s just doing his job by making the president look so much smarter.

Worldwide swine flu cases continue to rise
All of these headlines are from April 30th to May 3rd. The hysteria is caused by the media. The effects of this flu don’t seem to be any worse than the normal flu. So why the scare tactics? Because it’s what the media does for a living. The peddle fear. And when that gets too much for people to handle, the talk about the fear like it’s some spontaneous event that had no underlying cause.
The 24-hour news cycle is to blame. They need to fill time and they need you to watch as much as possible. And they don’t care who the scare the hell out of to do it.
If that won’t make you sick, I don’t know what will.
